Professor Marcus Atlas held the Garnett Passe and Rodney William Memorial Foundation Chair in Otolaryngology, from 2000 to 2018 and is now an Emeritus Professor at The University of Western Australia. He is currently the Foundation Director of Ear Science Institute Australia (ESIA) and the Inaugural Chair of Translational Ear Science at Curtin University. ESIA is a medical research institute employing a multidisciplinary group of 170 surgeons, audiologists, scientists, and researchers in the world of ear and hearing science and is a designated collaborating centre for the World Hearing Organisation (WHO) in ear and hearing care.
He was a member of the Court of Examiners, RACS, a past editor of the Australian Journal of Otolaryngology and sits on the editorial board of numerous journals. He has published over 150 international publications and books. He was recently awarded Member of the Order of Australia (AM) by the Australian Government in the 2022 Queens Birthday Honours.
